It is easiest played with a capo at the 2nd fret position. The lyrics are shown first, together with the main chords of the song. Then I tab out the melodies, which the rhythm guitar uses to intonate the verses. "Spit into the fire" -------------------- VERSE 1: F# Burn a candle set a light F# keep on going against the stream F# be as mean as mean can be F# as long as you're not too extreme F# read the papers watch the news F# be informed and get the blues F# collect your garbage use the subway F# B swaying you stay on the roof VERSE 2: F# Search for solutions for the future F# find resources drill for oil F# raise some powerplants and then F# burry them under the soil F# Rome is burning the emperor sings F# waiting for what time may bring F# his body caressed by the virgins F# B laughing shy he turns around CHORUS 1: A And spits into the fire D and hopes that he can calm it down A fights the flames with words D 'cause they're cheaper than water A thinking he can heal the world D but the only thing he really does B is sitting on a sofa F# and spit into the fire VERSE 3: F# Rabbits running on the green F# and jump directly in your pan F# turtles transform into soup F# B enjoy them as long as you can VERSE 4: F# Silent sitting writing songs F# 'bout all the idiots that pretend F# that their words can change the world F# B I think I'm right but in the end CHORUS 2: A I spit into the fire D and hope that I can calm it down A fight the flames with words D 'cause they're cheaper than water A thinking I can heal the world D but the only thing I really do B is sitting on the sofa B and spit into the fire OUTRO: F# A and spit into the fire (spit into spit into) E5 B5 spit into it (spit into spit into) F# and hope that I can calm it down A fight the flames with words E5 'cause they're cheaper than water B5 thinking I can heal the world D but the only thing I really do Bm D is sitting on the sofa and spit into the fire Bm D is sitting on the sofa and spit into the fire Bm B is sitting on the sofa and spit into the fire B spit into it... ----- OK - that's it, man - remember: calm verses, intense choruses and outro is the key point. Chord legend: F# 244322 B *24442 Bm *24432 B5 *2442* A 542225 D *54232 E5 **2452 Here goes the verse melodies: VERSE 1+2: |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----3-----------|-----3-4-43------| |-4-4---4-2---4---|-4-4---------4---| |-----------6-----|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----3-----------|-----3-4-4-3-----| |-4-4---4-2---4---|-4-4---------4---| |-----------6-----|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|---------2-42----| |-----------------|-----3-4---------| |-4-44--2---------|-4-4-------------| |-----------6-44--|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| |--3-4-3---3343---|-----------3-4---| |-4------4------4-|-4-4-6-4-6-------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| VERSE 3: |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|---------2-42----| |-----3-----------|-----3-4---------| |-4-4---4-2---4---|-4-4-------------| |-----------6-----|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----3-4-43------|-----------3-4---| |-4-4---------4---|-4-4-6-4-6-------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| VERSE 4: |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|---------2-42----| |-4-3-4-3-43------|-----3-4---------| |------------4----|-4-4-------------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----3-4-43------|-3-3-------3-4---| |-4-4---------4---|--6--4-4-6-------| |-----------------|-----------------| |-----------------|-----------------| During the verses, the acoustic rhythm guitar plays the F# superimposing the most dominant notes of the above melody line. I didn't bother writing it all out, it is a lot easier just to try it out. It kind of falls into place after a few tries. OK, enjoy this great tune from the best rockband in Germany, any comments and criticisms are extremely welcome.
