For starters: This is an altered version of an open D tuning:
DACAGd
You need a capo which will be set on the 9th fret. NOTE: The capo only goes across 5 strings. The low E
string(D string in this case) will have no capo on it. This means that the tuning for the strings with the
capo applied will be:
DF#AF#EB
This is pretty much exactly how Ben plays it. If you want a similar sound you want some reverb and delay and
also just a tiny bit of drive during the chorus.
NOTE: fret 2 for the low E string will be on the actual second fret whilst for the other strings fret 2
will be on the 11th fret since, once again, the capo does not cover the low E string. (low D string)
