I believe the lyrics and music were both written by Heather Anne Campbell
and the performance was by Liz Beebe from The Dustbowl Revival, so I credited
it to Heather Anne Campbell because... it's evidently her song. This was made
into a short for Fox's ADHD and is great, go watch it.
[Intro]
C x4
[Verse]
C
We’re all the same
No matter how we’ve grown
G
Colors of our skin
Defections in our bones
There's one thing we share
Everyone everywhere
C
We're all alone
G C
We're all alone.
[Chorus]
C G
Everyone is fundamentally lonely
Am Em
Whether you trust science or a church
F
Because we’re scared
C
Some of us make pairs
D G
And some are still on the search
C G
But everyone is fundamentally lonely
Am Em
So here’s daily advice
F
You’re in pain
C
And everyone feels the same
D G C
So just be ..... nice.
C
[Verse]
C
What do you lose
When life’s already the worst
G
Leave a better tip
Let that guy in line first
We’re all lonely
Pay for his coffee
C (hold)
Pick up that trash
(hold) G C
I know it’s not your trash.
C
[Chorus]
C G
Everyone is fundamentally lonely
Am Em
Sometimes it comes out as rage
F
Screaming in a store
C
They’re lonely at the core
D G
So be calm when you engage
C G
Everyone is fundamentally lonely
Am Em
I’m not saying to sacrifice
F
Lend some support
C
At the airport
D G C
It won’t kill you to be nice.
C
[Bridge]
F
Everything is stupid
C
Success is a projection
D
We’re all quietly helpless
G (hold)
Being nice is a connection
F
Blaring your car horn
C
Won’t make you feel tremendous
D
But picking up something someone dropped
G (hold)
Will make this whole thing less horrendous
[Chorus]
C G
Everyone is fundamentally lonely
Am Em
Even ones pretending they’re not
F
Be nice today
D * A7*
It’ll make things just slightly ok
C(hold) G(hold) C(arpeggio)
On this lonely, little blue dot.
* I don't think these are completely right but I can't figure out
what chords they're supposed to be. It's a key change or something
and I'm not great at that sort of thing. Let me know if you figure
it out and I'll edit it promptly.
