------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Clouds by Hole ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From 'Pretty on the Inside' (1991). This is a cover of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides, Now", minus all folk aspects, and is loud, gnarly, and stripped down to just two chords. It sounds like Love is playing open chords underneath Erlandson, who is playing power chords, so I've tabbed each of them. Go crazy with a wah pedal as well. Listen to the album to get the idea of timing for it. It's actually really, really easy to play, there's just so much going on in terms of distortion, wah pedals and phasers that it sounds more complicated than it is. I didn't bother to tab Erlandson's experimental lead stuff that comes up sporadically in the song, so take note of that. Tabbed by: Scott H. Tuning: Standard Guitar 1 (Courtney Love): e|----3-------------3------------------| B|----3------1------3------1-----------| G|----0------0------0------0-----------| D|----0------2------0------2-----------| A|----2------3------2------3-----------| E|----3------0------3------0-----------| Guitar 2 (Eric Erlandson): e|-------------------------------------| B|-------------------------------------| G|---12-------------12-----------------| D|---12-----10------12------10---------| A|---10-----10------10------10---------| E|-----------8---------------8---------| Play Guitar 1 x 2 in intro, then play Guitar 2 over that x 2 Repeat this progression throughout the entire song. Heavy distortion and a wah pedal are necessary if you want to replicate the sound on the album. That sort of sweeping effect also leads me to believe there is a phaser being used as well. Lyrics: (Bad boy...) Rows and flows of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feathered canyons everywhere I've looked at clouds that way Moons and Junes and ferris wheels The dizzy dancing way you feel when When every fairy tale comes real I've looked at clouds that way But now they only block the sun They rain and snow on everyone So, so many things that I could have done But clouds got in... My angel dust gets in your eyes and hair On acid stars you're getting there My body is assembled into a little gift to you When you die I've looked at life that way But now it's just another show You leave 'em laughing when you go Don't, don't let them in Don't, don't let them know Don't give yourself away Well, now my friends are acting strange They shake their heads, man, they say I've changed Well, well something's wrong and rearranged From living every, every... I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall, I... I really don't know I really don't know I really don't know I really don't know I really don't know life that well (Count your stars, say goodnight)
