Democracy

音乐人: Leonard Cohen

Since this song was written and recorded on the keyboard I made up the guitar as best I
could without a rhythm guitar to base it off of. It makes a lot more sense with the capo
than it did without, as I had it written before.

Capo 1

Verse 1:

     C F/C C
It's coming through a hole in the air
           C G C
From those nights in Tiananmen Square
     F Bb/F F
It's coming from the feel that this ain't exactly real
        C F/C C
Or it's real, but it ain't exactly there
         E Am
From the wars against disorder, from the sirens night and day
         E Am
From the fires of the homeless, from the ashes of the gay
  G F C
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

Verse 2:

     C F/C C
It's coming through a crack in the wall
     C G C
On a visionary flood of alcohol
         F Bb/F F
From the staggering account of the Sermon on the Mount
        C F/C C
Which I don't pretend to understand at all
      E Am
It's coming from the silence on the dock of the bay
         E Am
From the brave, the bold, the battered heart of Chevrolet

Verse 3:

     C F/C C
It's coming from the sorrow in the street
    C G C
The holy places where the races meet
         F Bb/F F
From the homicidal bitchin' that goes down in every kitchen
     C F/C C
To determine who will serve and who will eat
         E Am
From the wells of disappointment where the women kneel to pray
        E Am
For the grace of God in the desert here, and the desert far away
