Hey! All I did was transpose the other version down 2 and slapped a capo on the second fret, (as well as
tweaked the chords a teeny tiny bit) so props to the user who tabbed it the first time! and also I'm
posting the whole song and lyrics and all that junk.
It's pretty easy to figure out the picking, what I do is for the first verse I strum once for each chord,
and after I strum for the D chord I pluck the D, G, and B strings, respectively.
That may sound a little confusing but if you listen to Mary playing the song live on KEXP you'll hear the little
tune I'm talking about.
I'm actually not sure if what I'm calling B7 is actually B7, but it's like this (from low to high): [02120x}
Capo 2!
G
You are
B7
Sanskrit on my skin
Em
Peel me open
C
Till I am nothing
D
But a whisper
G
Name yourself sinner
B7
I only play for pennies
Em
And I don't play for sinners
C
I play for sadness
D
I play for dead things
G D
Pull the bones from their sockets
Em
Please be softer while you do it
C
For I am fragile
D
And vacant
G D
Sarasvati sung me to sleep I
Em C D
Rested my head against a knee
G D
And the music I like goes up and down
Em C
Like bobbing bodies in a river bed
D (optional)
And they say
G D
Mary, why are your songs so sad?
Em C (hold)
Look at the luck and fortune you've had
D
Why do you cry at night?
G D
Pull the bones from their sockets
Em
Please be softer while you do it
C
For I am fragile
D
And vacant
G D
You can take my body and tongue and organs
Em C D
Whisper to my skin like death has already rose and stuff
G D
Pull the bones from their sockets
Em
Please be softer while you do it
C
For I am fragile
D
And vacant
End on G
