------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HISTORY MAKER - Delirious? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuning: Standard For this tab, I'm going to try and tab out the studio version of History Maker off of the UK version of King of Fools. It may not perfect, but it should give you an idea of how to play it. The timing isn't exact in a couple places (so you'll want to listen to the track), but the song is complete. There are three guitars playing in this song overall. One of these is a simple rhythm guitarist (playing an acoustic guitar), following the basic chords for the song, though with various fingerings (which I have attempted to tab out). The second guitar plays lead on an electric , as well as rhythm, depending on the point in the song. The third guitarist is a second electric, alternating between rhythm and lead during the song. but it is simply a slight variation and improvisation based off of the solo played over the bridge. I'm going to try and tab out the various live versions of this song later, since it is played a little differently each time. One last thing. Though this song is played in standard tuning, if you want one of your guitarists to play the strings rift over the verses, have him or her tune to Drop D. This makes it much easier to play at the tempo in the song. However, if you don't want to, or can't do this, I've provided the riff in standard tuning as well. The first riff is played by guitar one, and starts on the word "true" during the first verse. Riff One (Guitar One) e|----3---3-------3---3-------3--------------------------------| B|--3---3---3---3---3---3---3---3-----6----6-5--5-3--3-5--5-6--| G|0-----------0-----------0---------5--------------------------| D|--------------------------------3----------------------------| A|-------------------------------------------------------------| E|-------------------------------------------------------------| After this, guitar one plays downstrokes once for each of these chords, while guitar two (the acoustic) strums them: C-G/B-Am-F (played as power chords on guitar one, based from either the E and the A strings, or the A and the D strings). Rhythm One (Played by Guitars one and two, though guitar two plays the open chords given above). (what these power chords should look like) (If based from E and A strings) e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| G|-5-------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|-5-----5--------------3----------------------------------------------------| A|-3-----5-----7--------3----------------------------------------------------| E|-------3-----5--------1----------------------------------------------------| C G Am F (If based from A and D strings) e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|------8----1-----6---------------------------------------------------------| G|-5----7----2-----5---------------------------------------------------------| D|-5----5----2-----3---------------------------------------------------------| A|-3-------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| C G Am F The second riff is also played by by guitar one, over verse two (listen to the song to get a feel for it) Riff Two (Guitar One) e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|----3-------------------------------1--------------------------------------| G|--2-------------------------------0----------------------------------------| D|2-------------------------------3------------------------------------------| x2 A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| After this, guitar one and guitar two play another rhythm parts, based around G and F. F is played in three different variations here, in succession. You'll need to listen to the recording to figure this bit out. Guitar Two simply plays the open chords, and not the F power chord progression. The progression for this rhythm is G-F(v1)-F(v2)-F(v3)-F(v2)-F(v1) Rhythm Two (Guitars One and Two) (how the power chords for guitar one should look) e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|-8---6-------5--------3----------------------------------------------------| G|-7---5-------5--------5----------------------------------------------------| D|-5---3-------3--------3----------------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| G F(v1) F(v2) F(v3) Then return to Rhythm One, and then to Rhythm Three (which the chorus) Rhythm Three consists of Guitar One and Two, playing the following chord progression (open for Guitar two, power chords for Guitar One): C-Am-F-C-Am-F-C-G/B-Am-F-C-G/B-Am-F-C-G/B-Am-F. The power chords can be played using either of the fingerings shown in Rhythm One. For the first half of the third verse, Guitar Three comes in and plays Rhythm Four, using a wah/delay effect. Guitar One plays Riff Two twice during this verse. Rhythm Four is simply a chord progression between Am and Fmaj9. The power chords are below, but you'll need to listen to the recording for the playing pattern. It is basically just downstrokes on each of these chords. Rhythm Four (Guitar Three) e|-0------0------------------------------------------------------------------| B|-1------1------------------------------------------------------------------| G|-2------0------------------------------------------------------------------| D|-2------3------------------------------------------------------------------| A|-0------3------------------------------------------------------------------| E|--------1------------------------------------------------------------------| Am Fmaj9 For the second half of the verse, starting on the word "miracles", guitar three plays Riff Three, using delay. Riff Three (Guitar Three) e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|----------------------0-----1----------------------------------------------| G|2---------------2----------------------------------------------------------| D|--------------------------------3------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| e|--------------------------------1------------------------------------------| B|----------------------0-----1----------------------------------------------| G|2---------------2----------------------------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| After this, return to Rhythm Two, then Rhythm One, and then Rhythm Three. The last line of Rhythm Three (the C-G/B-Am-F) is played several times after Rhythm Three. The song then dissolves into the breakdown. Riff Four is played during the breakdown, by Guitar Three (or One). At the end of the breakdown, Martin shouts "You Can Do It, Yeah!", and the solo begins, with the entire band reentering. Riff Four (Guitar Three) e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|1-----1-1-0---3---1-------------------1-1-0---3---1-------------------1-1-0| G|------------------------0---0---2-----------------------2---2---0----------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|---3---1-------------------------------------------------------------------| G|-------------0---0---2-----------------------------------------------------| D|-------------------------------------3--2--0-------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| Behind the Solo, Guitars Two and Three play the last line of the chorus (C-G/B-Am-F). Guitar Three uses power chords, while guitar two uses open chords. Following the actual solo, the last portion of the solo (the final progression on B is played several more times, before the band goes back into the chorus, with Guitar One continuing to play that riff, while Guitars Two and Three play Rhythm Three (with power chords and open chords respectively). After the chorus is played, the song dissolves into Guitar One playing the last line of the solo over and over again, while Guitars two and three play the last line of the chorus in the same manner as before. After some time, Guitar Three switches over to playing the actual solo again, after Guitar Three returns to the Rhythm Three last line progression. Guitar Two continues to play this progression the whole time. The song ends after several more lines of this. Solo (Guitar One or Guitar Three, depending on point in song) Note: Every non-repetitive note in the solo until the very last line on the B string is slid to from the previous note e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|1---------------3---------------1---------------1-0---1--------------------| G|------------------------------------------------------------2---0----------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| The important riff starts below the asterisk * e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|-----------------------------1-1-0---3---1---0---1-------------------------| G|-----0h2-------0-------2---------------------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| And there you have it. I apologize if it makes no sense. Leave a comment if you find any mistakes, or need explanations for part of it. It's one of Delirious?'s trickiest songs, and is pretty loaded musically. I did my best to recreate it here, but you'll have to listen to the song to figure it out, or know it by heart already. Timing is probably the biggest issue here. ************************************ | / slide up | \ slide down | h hammer-on | p pull-off | ~ vibrato | + harmonic | x Mute note | b Bend | pb Pre-bend | br Bend release | pbr Pre-bend release | brb Bend release bend ************************************
