This is based on the version on the Sound Techniques DVD: Guitar Maestros Series 1: Martin Carthy. He does a
number of variations to the verses and I've had a go at capturing the main ones. The accompaniment to the
verses is pretty sparse, so to get the timing you need to listen to him playing it. There are a couple
of breaks between verses, some parts of which he plays higher up the neck.
Most of the bass notes are muted. The notes in brackets are fingered with the left hand but not actually
played with the right, so they're a bit like hammer-ons, and they give an idea of the chord.
