The Phoenix (Duffy/Astbury) This song just completely rocks! I always liked the CD version, but if you have ever heard it live, it just sounds a million times better. Before we even start, I don't know the solo, or what Billy is doing over the opening chords. He probably just improvised it himself. Regardless it's great! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------| ---11-------------------------------------------------------------------------| ---11--(up and down on the Wah a few times)-----------------------------------| ----9-------------------------------------------------------------------------| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------| Ok, you'll need a Wah pedal. You can listen to the record for the Wah timing. Just don't go too crazy, you'll want to stretch out your highs and lows to get the right sound. If you don't have a Wah, it still sounds pretty cool. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------| ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------| ----11----------14---14--14--14-----13--13--13--13----12--12--12--12--------------| ----11----------14---14--14--14-----13--13--13--13----12--12--12--12--------------| ----9-----------12---12--12--12-----11--11--11--11----10--10--10--10--------------| ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------| I didn't bother to TAB out all the chord strums, you should get a good feel for it just by listeningto the record. For those with the benefit of Wah, hit the first chord in the strums at the low end (toe up) and stretch it out (from toe up to toe down) as you play the remaining chords in the rhythm. If you don't have Wah, you may want to play the first chord twice (with Wah, you hit it once but bounce it from low to high to get it to sound like 2 hits) This riff is doubled by the exact same thing, but a step lower.
