Devin Townsend Project: Stormbending Album: Transcendence Tuning: Open C (C-G-C-G-C-E) An awesome, uplifting song that is surprisingly easy to learn. I listened to it and sang along for months before I even realized that the opening/main riff was in an odd time signature. I'm guessing that listening to Haken has probably made odd time signatures seem normal to me :) At the same time, I think it speaks volumes when a band can incorporate odd time signatures/feel and make it nearly un-noticable. Tip: For the tapping solo (Dave Young - Solo 1), think of it in two parts. For the first half (before the repeat of the tapping section) your fretting hand stays in pretty much one position, focusing on hammer-ons on the 2nd fret on strings 2 and 3 (B and G in standard tuning). For the latter half, you fretting hand focuses on hammer-ons on the 5th fret of strings 3 and 4 (G and D in standard tuning). While this is happening, your tapping hand moves up three notes, then back down, while going back to a root note in between each move up or down. Hopefully this helps some - though it's completely possible this tip may be more confusing than it's worth!
