This is how Bret plays it on the show. There's not much change to the chords in their
live sets, so this is about as close as it gets. The chords and lyrics are displayed
in the songbook that come with the CD and Vinyl release, however, they aren't exactly the
chords that Bret plays. I'm sure the names of the chords may be a little off, but I hope
its close enough.

Cheers!

NOTE: The lyrics in (parenthesis) are Jemaine's.
The chord progression stays the same through the verses where Bret plays piano.
Jemaine's bass line is the only thing present in the last verse

      D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
I was wandering through the streets of the city
G Gmaj9 G6 A7
Rambling through the avenues of time
          D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
When from nowhere my eyes fell onto a girl
         G Gmaj9 G6 A7
And by chance her eyes fell onto mine

   (Ah…)

      D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
So I sat and I acted all nonchalant
      G Gmaj9 G6 A7
She smoked her lavender cigarette
D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
Reading the future that lay in my hands
     G Gmaj9 G6
My shadow played a bass clarinet

(Where are you going with this, Bret?)

     D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
We waltzed down a moonlit boulevard
     G Gmaj9 G6 A7
Just two silhouettes in the mist

   (Ah, yes?)

D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
Days went by and years went by
G Gmaj9 G6 A7
Moments went by when we kissed

   (When was this?)

               D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
She said “Your beard is woven of heartache
          G Gmaj9 G6 A7
And we'll drink for the lonely tonight.”
        D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
And the moon is a horny old drunkard

        G Gmaj9 G6 A7
(Ah, Bret. Could you please move over to your right?)

         D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
We drank dandelion wine and we reminisced
          G Gmaj9 G6 A7
About the moment when we first met that day

   (I'm trying to watch TV)

        D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
Then we reminisced about how we first reminisced

       G Gmaj9 G6 A7
(Ah yeah. Sounds a bit gay)

    D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
She handed me a broken memory
  G Gmaj9 G6 A7
A keepsake to forevermore say
     D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
That a brief taste of love is as sweet as any
        G Gmaj9 D
And with that, she made her way

(Oh yeah? what was her name?)

     D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
She said her name was a secret
        G Gmaj9 G6 A7
Then she said her name was Cherie
           D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A G Gmaj9
(Is her middle name Cherie, so it's a Secret Cherie, maybe?)

   G6 A7
Mm… maybe

   (What did she look like?)

    D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
She looked like a Parisian river

   (What, dirty?)

     G Gmaj9 G6 A7
She looked like a chocolate éclair

   (That's rare)

    D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
Her eyes were reflections of eyes

   (Oh, nice)

        G Gmaj9 G6 A7
And the rainbows danced in her hair

   (Oh yeah…)

    D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
She reminded me of a winter's morning

   (What, frigid?)

      G Gmaj9 G6 A7
Her perfume was eau de toilette

   (What's that mean?)

        D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
She was comparable to Cleopatra

   (Quite old?)

              G Gmaj9 G6 A7
She was like Shakespeare's Juliet

   (Thirteen?!)

     D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
The bohemians of Soho did pirouettes
       G Gmaj9 G6 A7
As we waltzed through the streets of Manhattan
    D Dmaj7 Gmaj7 D/A
On rivers of ribbon and sailboats of song
 G Gmaj9 G6 A7
(Bret, did any of this actually happen?)

There's a girl I described she's as real as the wind
It's true I saw her today
The other details are inventions
Because I prefer her that way
